Akanoi Bay after the soil amendment
project in 1965 |
|
(1) A rice field
has been irrigated with water pumped up from the lake and (2) Small streams and brooks have been straightened so
that the drainage capacity can be increased. (3) The population has increased, factories have been
established and the urban area has expanded rapidly. (4) The quantity of contaminants generated increased. (5) Natural purification capability of streams and
marshland decreased remarkably. (6) As a result of continuing sludge sedimentation on the lake bottom, Akanoi Bay is said to be the most eutrophic water area in Lake Biwa. |
