Akanoi, the fertile country

@

The Yasu River of today was newly constructed as a drainage canal flowing between the ancient north branch and the south branch of the previous Yasu River with the inauguration ceremony in June, 1979.

The water of the Yasu River, every time when the water level went up, overflowed and flooded to the lower land expanding the alluvial fan and forming the delta.  People established villages on lower mounds which were occasionally flooded and lived there.

The village land is a natural levee formed by piled up soil the Yasu River brought in a way that intercepts the water flow creating a fertile land.
