 The 3rd World Water Forum in Moriyama |
The meeting was a big moment when both domestic and international NGOs were highly commended for steady activities in their communities.
This year our backyard becomes a venue for "The 3rd World Water Forum in Moriyama" again in support of "The 3rd World Water Forum in Japan".
We will examine many themes, including:―what are the actions of NGOs, governments, farmers, fishermen, businesses and academics toward restoring Lake Biwa―Why hasn't Lake Biwa been restored yet?
Six mini seminars in series have been held before the forum to have problems jointly with participants. So that, at the forum, participants have learned both domestic and foreign lake situations. During these seminars people in Moriyama have developed their knowledge on lakes dramatically. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to people in Moriyama for preparing for the forum with exercising wisdom, doing their best and to people from abroad and all over the country for coming.
Moriyama City prospered as a lodging town on the old Nakasen-do highway. With the creation of the "Moriyama firefly ordinance", our city has been working on the project of restoring the life of the Genji-firefly which used to be seen in Moriyama, and of improving the water quality and echo-system in Akanoi bay and its surrounding region.
We are very glad that "The 3rd World Water Forum" is being held in our city. On this occasion we sincerely hope that this forum would be a great opportunity for guests coming from other countries and for our citizens to learn together and to deepen understanding about water issues.
