| Moriyama Declaration | ||
| In Moriyama, streams, rivers and Lake Biwa have provided residents
with not only playgrounds for children, but also essentials to maintain
the quality of life. However, our surrounding water environment, such as Lake Biwa and rivers, is in danger. More serious water crisis can be seen in various places around the world. Water is one of the most important resources and it links us all on the earth. We, participants of the 3rd World Water Forum in Moriyama, wish the residents' activities in improving the water quality can give suggestions to solve problems around the world. We declare to support the following commitments to preserve water quality with local consortiums around Moriyama. |
||
| 1) | Continue to make a society where residents get positively involved in
addressing a policy through sustainable environmental improvement activities
at Akanoi Bay and the rivers basin. To do this, strong regional partnership among residents, business companies, local governmental agencies, and scientists will be enhanced with widely shared information with other domestic and overseas organizations. |
|
| 2) | Continue to restore the water quality of rivers and streams so as a lot
of Genji fireflies and Shijimi clams, which used to be seen abundantly
around here, come back again. We are all welcome to continue hard work with sweat and then to transfer the sweet and comfortable hometowns to our next generations, children and grandchildren. A future water vision will be addressed through studying more about Lake Biwa Basin, local history and culture. All participants to the 3rd World Water Forum in Moriyama March 21, 2003 |
